Middle Tennessee State University Athletics said its women’s tennis team completed the second day of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals on Friday, Oct. 9, in Mason, Ohio, with Sara Conde and Sthefany Lima advancing in doubles play.
According to MTSU Athletics, Conde and Lima defeated Austin Peay’s Peyton Duckett and Pauline Bruns, 8-4, to move into the second round of open doubles. The announcement said the win was Conde’s third doubles victory of the season and Lima’s first, and that Lima had also recorded two singles wins the previous day.
MTSU Athletics reported that Victoria Matasova and Zhanel Rustemova lost 8-5 to Purdue’s Reese Frank and Kathryn Wilson, while Lena Peyer and Maria Palacios fell 8-2 to Vanderbilt’s Mia Yamakita and Erin Pearce.
In singles, MTSU Athletics said Matasova lost to Chattanooga’s Liam Oved, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, and Lima lost to Yamakita, 1-6, 2-6.
The announcement said Conde and Lima were scheduled to play Louisville’s Maeve Thornton and Rinon Okuwaki at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, seeking a place in the regional’s last 16. It also said consolation matches were planned for the remaining MTSU players, with Matasova and Rustemova facing Eastern Kentucky and Peyer and Palacios facing Lipscomb. In singles consolation, Lima was scheduled to meet Eastern Kentucky’s Alyssa Giupponi and Matasova was set to play Purdue’s Ece Gencer, both at 1 p.m.
