Middle Tennessee State University’s Mock Trial Association hosted “The ’Boro Brawl,” a two-day collegiate mock trial invitational on the MTSU campus in Murfreesboro on Oct. 17-18, the university said in an announcement. The event marked the return of collegiate mock trial competition to MTSU for the first time since 2018, according to the university.
The invitational brought 18 teams from 11 colleges and universities in eight states to campus, where visiting teams competed in simulated courtroom proceedings, MTSU said. The university said each round lasted three hours and included opening and closing statements, witness examinations and arguments before judges.
More than 20 members of MTSU’s Mock Trial Association organized the event rather than competing, coordinating with participating universities, recruiting attorney judges and working with university staff on logistics, the announcement said.
Rhodes College teams placed first and second, with Rhodes B taking first and Rhodes A second; Missouri State A placed third, MTSU said. Kennesaw State University received the Spirit of the American Mock Trial Association Award for sportsmanship, courtesy and respect, according to the university.
The announcement did not provide an event cost or public contact information for future tournaments, MTSU said.
