Rutherford County Schools students earned national honors at the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, held Oct. 21–24, the district said in a Nov. 3 announcement. Students from nine county schools attended, and the district said 31 received the American FFA Degree.
Oakland FFA placed 10 agriscience projects in the national top 10, including a national runner-up project, according to the district. Riverdale FFA’s Creed Speaking competitor placed fourth nationally, and an Oakland FFA student placed fifth in Employment Skills, the announcement said.
The district also reported national gold recognition for Oakland FFA’s Floriculture entry, national silver recognition for Riverdale FFA’s Food Science team and Stewarts Creek FFA’s Agricultural Issues team, and two Rutherford County students named national finalists in proficiency awards. The announcement said four chapters—Eagleville, Oakland, Riverdale and Stewarts Creek—received the National Chapter Award Program’s highest rating, Three Stars.
The American FFA Degree is the National FFA Organization’s highest honor, and fewer than 1% of members receive it, according to the district. The announcement listed recipients by school, but this story does not name individual students.
The district said the next national convention is scheduled for Oct. 27–30, 2027, in Indianapolis.
