The district said Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Kay Martin hosted the meeting. According to the announcement, the discussion lasted more than two hours and included information about district operations, goals and governance.
The district said suggestions raised at the meeting included using shared academic vocabulary across elementary, middle and high schools; expanding tutoring and mentoring opportunities; improving access to athletic facilities; and providing more assistance with college and scholarship applications.
The announcement also said participants identified ACT preparation, the four-by-four schedule, opportunities for student input, dual enrollment and early college programs, career and technical classes, and access to industry certifications as positive features of their schools.
Rutherford County Schools said Sullivan and Martin plan to hold additional meetings during the school year to gather input directly from students.
