Middle Tennessee State University will hold its First Friday Star Party on Friday, Nov. 6, featuring a talk about eclipse-chasing at 6:30 p.m. in Wiser-Patten Science Hall, according to an MTSU announcement. The event is in Room 102 at 422 Old Main Circle in Murfreesboro.
The speaker, John Wallin, directs MTSU’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in computational and data science, and his university research includes parsing gravitational interactions in the universe, the announcement said. His lecture will last 45 minutes, after which attendees may stargaze at the MTSU observatory until 8:30 p.m., weather permitting.
The observatory has a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope that displays the telescopic field on two wall-mounted screens, according to the announcement.
Parking is available after 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Judd-Sims or library lots on the north side of Alumni Drive, between North Baird Lane and Womack Lane, MTSU said. The university’s announcement also provides a searchable campus parking map.
MTSU said its final Star Party of 2026 is scheduled for Dec. 4, with a lecture by physics and astronomy instructor Irina Perevalova. Community members can email suggested lecture topics to Chuck Higgins at the email address listed in MTSU’s announcement.
