Seven Middle Tennessee State University students attended the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala on Oct. 26 at the Music City Center in Nashville, MTSU said in an announcement published Nov. 4.
The students represented MTSU’s Scott Borchetta College of Media and Entertainment, and included three songwriting students, two music business students and two audio production students, according to the university. MTSU said it secured a table of 10 through an invitation to Recording Industry faculty member Denise Shackelford, and students were invited to apply for the seats.
Dean Beverly Keel, Shackelford and assistant professor Bess Rogers attended with the students, who had opportunities to meet and speak with Taylor Swift, Amy Grant, Jamey Johnson, Jennifer Cook and other music-industry figures, the announcement said. Swift was inducted into the hall as its youngest inductee, MTSU said.
One of the students, music business senior Brenna Borzyskowski, moved to Murfreesboro just over two years ago and is scheduled to graduate in December, according to MTSU. The university said she has worked since March in a temporary position at the Mechanical Licensing Collective, gaining experience in administrative music publishing. At the gala, she introduced herself to the organization’s CEO and discussed her plans after graduation, MTSU reported.
The other students named in the announcement were Betsy Adair, Maverick Houston, Jake Javers, Emily Eastep-VanLinden, Emily Sanders and Cassi Smith.
